El Tesoro Tequila
Discover El Tesoro Tequila, a spirit that's crafted with the same tequila-making methods used centuries ago and has remained true to the culture and history of tequila. Defiant to change and unyielding to modern techniques, find out more about this rare gem of the spirits world at Pascale’s Liquors,
7401 Oswego Road, Liverpool, NY 13090.
History of El Tesoro Tequila
El Tesoro Tequila is what most people will call a passion product of its founder, Don Felipe of the Camarena family. The renowned Camarena family is widely considered to be one of the founding families of Mexico’s tequila industry with roots dating back to as early as the 1800s. Traditional tequila-making is deeply ensconced in the Camarena family's lineage and it was to preserve this heritage that Don Felipe established the La Alteña Distillery in 1937. It was there that El Tesoro Tequila was first produced as an homage to the family's history of craftsmanship and authenticity and the distillery - which has remained in the family - has kept watch over the brand since.
What Sets El Tesoro Tequila From Other Tequila Brands
El Tesoro Tequila is one of the few tequila brands that to this day uses traditional tequila-making methods. When most brands have innovated their production processes to adapt to the changing times, El Tesoro tequila still produces tequila the same way it was produced centuries ago.
El Tesoro tequila still uses the traditional tahona - a large volcanic stone wheel - to crush the cooked agave. This labor intensive method could have easily been foregone for more modern alternatives, however the beauty lies in the how the tahona preserves the delicate flavors of the agave, a feature that no modern mechanical shredders can duplicate.
El Tesoro Tequila also still uses hornos (traditional brick ovens) to slow-cook the agave. “Slow” is an understatement as cooking a batch can take up to 36 hours – an eternity compared to faster, industrial autoclaves used by most producers of today. The hornos make it worth the trouble though as they enhance the natural sweetness and complexity of the agave, imparting a flavor profile that’s both unique and authentic.
This remarkable loyalty to artisanal processes sets El Tesoro Tequila apart as a true treasure of Jalisco.
Types of El Tesoro Tequila
